Syncthing
A self-hosted Backup, Sync & Storage app you can run on your own server.
With Syncthing, you get a self-hosted backup, sync and storage tool that lives on your own server, under your rules. Running it yourself keeps the data on your own network and lets you back it up however you like.
Development happens in the open on GitHub; the repository has collected 88.5K stars so far. Repository activity was last recorded on Sep 8, 2026, and the project is classed as actively maintained in our snapshot.
Before you switch
Backup tools must be tested with a restore, not just a successful backup message. Run a trial recovery of one folder, verify checksums or snapshots, and store at least one copy off-site. Sync tools deserve the same care: test conflict behaviour with a throwaway file first.
Like every project listed on SelfHosted, Syncthing is developed in the open — you can read the code, follow development, and even contribute. Check the system requirements and the project’s own documentation linked on this page before installing.
